New Delhi, February 24 (Hindustan Times). The Supreme Court has upheld the decision of the Bombay High Court regarding the acquisition of land for the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High Speed Bullet Train project. A bench headed by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud told petitioner Godrej & Boyce that it is a matter of national interest and you are acting like a responsible agency.
In fact, in connection with the acquisition of land for the project, Godrej & Boyce had filed a petition in the Bombay High Court seeking a lower rate of compensation and payment. The High Court dismissed the plea saying it was a dream project of national importance and public interest and the country needed it. No intervention is required in this regard. Bombay High Court’s decision was challenged in the Supreme Court by Godrej & Boyce Company.
